Reason No. 376 I Would Like a Garmin

May I present to you, my running route one day last week.

I think I might use some of my tax money to get a Garmin Forerunner 305. I've never had a heart rate monitor and, while I love GMaps Pedometer, I'm getting a little tired of mapping out routes to run. Especially when my lists (like the above) get all smeared with water and then become incredibly difficult to read. Looking like a lost tourist while running in place and wearing a water belt is just something I'm not trying to do.

Do you have a heart rate monitor? Do you love it? Hate it?

You probably know my story! I have the Polar F7 and it was not registering my heart rate all the time! I think it is better now that I washed it but I definitely want to trade it in for one that tracks distance! I am going to research that now since you reminded me! I heard most people love the Garmin though!

Haha, this post cracks me up. I should have taken a photo of the palm of my hand from my run on Wednesday. It was handwritten and looked a lot like this:
L on Magarity
R on Ulney
L on Griffith
L on Pimmit
R on Cherri

and so on so that my entire hand was covered.

I too need a Garmin. I just hate how big they are and that they rest on your forearm...just doesn't feel right to me when I have run with one.

I do have a heart rate monitor and I do love it, especially when doing races. But much like any numbers (calories especially) it can get addictive and I would think I didn't have a good "run" unless I hit some where in the 180/190s and maintained in the 170s....instead of listening to my body.

Total honesty- at first i hated my HRM. I have a special devide i use and we get fitness bonus' if we exercise between 60-80% of our maximum HR. If you exercise at 80% you get double the time. 30min=60min. Sweet. The more you exercise, the more $$ you get. **great insentive*

Back to the HRM-- at first i hated it. Its weird running with a strap but after a few runs, i got SO used to it that now i feel naked if i dont run with it. Plus i love tracking my HR. Its cool to see how it changes. My maximum HR would be 220-22=198.

My average BPM for the half last weekend was 193. HOLY CRAP. God only knows how i dont peel over and die because not many people can run at that HR for so long. Granted it may be a tick or two off, but its pretty intune with my body.

ALL in ALL i say get it- you'll love it. Plus the 305 isnt as much as the 405 and you wont feel like your breaking your bank for one. Then you can name it a fun name :) WOOT WOOT!

*sorry i rambled SO much* :)

The peeps I'm living with this summer have a Garmin - it doesn't do heart-rate but it does track distance and time, which is amazing. I think you can get a nicer one that will keep track of your heart rate. One thing to look for, if possible, is a function that knows to stop keeping time when you're stopped at a crosswalk or water fountain. I don't know which products have this ability, but it's useful if you're trying to see how fast you're running (the one my peeps have doesn't do this, so sometimes we forget to stop it when we're paused and it sort of screws up our time).

You will LOVE a garmin! I have a 205 from a couple years ago, and it's wonderful :) I love my HRM too, and really wish I had a Garmin that did both so I didn't have to wear 2 watches :)

Hi - found your blog from MizFit.
I adore my Garmin! You must get one, you must, must, must!!! I barely use the heart rate anymore, but I always use it to track my mileage, time and pace.

Holly,
I always ran with a Polar Heart rate monitor, and it really helped to keep me in check, especially on easy runs and during races. I say go for the Garmin. Everyone I know that has one loves it!

I don't have one but I really want to get one. I'm thinking I'll probably ask for one for my birthday.

Def try the cookies! You could totally eliminate the coconut!

If you have an iPhone you can use Running Gypsy to track how far you're running, what your pace is, etc. I love it!

Holly,

I just started reading your blog and I think it's so much fun!

I had a Polar heart rate moniter for a while, but wasn't able to figure it out so I sent it back...I'm rather tech lazy.

With Love,

Emily
