Cottage Cheese Roast

I really don't LOVE to cook. I love to BAKE. (That may or may not have something to do with testing the dough and or batter at any given time during the baking process). But one of the things I DO love about cooking is the chance to find a delicious new recipe. I'm not adventurous at all when it comes to eating, but I have been since I've focused on eating more home cooked meals and no mo' frozen dinnahs.

So I saw this recipe for Cottage Cheese Roast - sounds nast, right? But I LOVE cottage cheese. I love corn flakes. I love roast. So there ya go. I modified the recipe by omitting the oil and walnuts, and I also added shredded spinach.

The result:

Looks pretty tasty, right? Of course I expected nothing but perfection after reading reviews like, "This was just as all the five-star reviewers described: Absolutely delicious and loved by every member of my family, including my meat-loving husband who didn't realize it was meatless. Can't wait to make it again and again!"

Normally I find the reviews on to be fairly accurate, but WHOA BETTY, this didn't deserve the 4.5/5 stars that it received! Maybe it was the omission of the oil? Addition of the spinach? The cook? I don't know. I did finally think to add ketchup to the leftovers as I ate it (I don't waste food! Unless it takes like poo.) The ketchup made it better, but I probably won't make this again.

Oh, well. Better luck next time!

Have you ever tried a recipe/combination that sounded completely disgusting, but tastes great? I get weird looks at restaurants if I put ketchup on baked potatoes ('it's like a big french fry!' I tell people. But still the weird looks.), but it is EXCELLENT.

Oooooo that looks deeeeelicious! I've definitely made a lot of gross-looking stuff. Probably the grossest are the scrambles I make with eggs, bacon, and every vegetable I can find in my fridge. Dave says it looks like a chicken threw up on my plate.

Hmm bummer it didn't turn out to be that good! I always put BBQ sauce on my baked potatoes- so delicious ;)

aw sorry to hear it didn't work out. Sometimes omitting something like oil makes a really big difference. But we learn through trial and error!

That looks good! I've never seen cottage cheese used that way, but I might have to try it sometime because I love cottage cheese!

cottage cheese and cornflakes together does sound really good - maybe it was the omission of the oil.... hmm... I think one thing thats kinda weird that I like together is cottage cheese and eggs.

I'm with you on the cooking vs. baking thing...I probably end up baking a lot more than cooking, too. (Yay for raw batter!)

I was waiting for you to tell us that the weird combination actually tasted delicious, so that's too bad. I like cottage cheese, too (usually mixed with some applesauce for a snack). :)

Are you kidding...Have you ever tried a recipe/combination that sounded completely disgusting, but tastes great? - story of my life. You should see some of the looks I get from people (or just read through my comments!) when I eat my Heather food. Even my husband glares with disgust at my spinach oats. Ha, they're all missing out! Love my funky combos...and ketchup always makes everything betta!

So excited that you loved your first almond butter experience. I had some on blended quinoa this morning. Love it!

Wanna eat something weird and amazingly good?

Try sprinkling some fresh, crispy bacon pieces over vanilla ice cream then drizzling it with some good olive oil. Delicious!

Wiggs - that actually sounds REALLY good! Anything with eggs + bacon is okay, no?

Erica - mmmmm, BBQ is also good with baked potatoes! I could drink BBQ sauce, actually.

Sagan - You can tell I'm such an amateur...but, you are right. OIL next time, Holly! Who knew that'd make such a difference??

Sweetandfit - cottage cheese + eggs sounds SO GOOD. I love both dearly.

Zandria - never thought to add CC to applesauce. Will have to try this! It's interesting all the crazy things you can combine with CC.

Heather - you crack me up!! Um, they are SO the ones missing out. lol. Jokes on them! Glad to know I'm not the only one out there, though. :-)

triathlonvirgin - okay, that gets first prize. No question. I LOVE ice cream and bacon (and actually olive oil, too), but really?

Brett - that is actually a REALLY good idea. I have cocoa powder in my cupboard and who knows when I'll use it next...might as well start adding it to stuff, huh??

Hmmm what a bummer. I've used cottage cheese in pasta dishes before and it was really good. Try again!
