Independent Woman

Have you lived where you lived now your whole life?

I have. Well, with the exception of college (4 years), when I went to Indiana University (only about an hour and a half away).

I have always been a homebody. When I was little, I couldn't even spend the night at a friends without coming home! It wasn't so much that I missed my mom and dad, it was that I loved my home.

Anyway, I've always stuck close to "home" - in fact, I live 5 miles from my parents, 4 miles from my oldest sister, and 3 miles from my middle sister! (some people think this is neat....other people thinks it's...weird). :-)

Yes, we always wear white at family gatherings. Don't you?

Sometimes I wonder if I am too dependent on my family. Not that that is a bad thing, but I think I am the stereotypical youngest child - my family has always been around to help with decisions, and to just help in general. And that's great! But sometimes I wonder if I need to be more independent.

Lately I've been thinking about moving....not seriously thinking about it (I did just buy my house a year ago!), but wondering if it's something I might want to do in the next few years. I don't even know where I would go! I wouldn't want to go too far, but there are so many great places that aren't terribly far from where I am now: Louisville (my bestie is there!), Denver (GORGEOUS....though far), Atlanta (warm, and gorgeous!), Tennessee (only driven it through it, but who doesn't love the accents?), Chicago (know a lot of people there....lots to do), the Carolinas.....

Ah. Who am I kidding? I'll probably never move. :-) But it is fun to think about...and maybe in a couple of years after I'm done with school (or have a new career, at least!), I will bite the bullet and do it.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?? Mine would be Colorado. Hands down! I've only been once, but it's gorgeous, the people are friendly, and Denver has over 300 days of sunshine a year. MAN! Much better than Indy's (below):

I have lived in the atlanta area my entire life. My parents still live in the same town I was raised. I live about 40 minutes away from my parents and about 30 min. from Andrew's parents. While the thought of moving to a new place sounds exciting and fun, I would never want to leave my family. Family is just so important, and while I don't see them nearly enough, if we moved we would see them even less and I wouldn't deal well with that. In college I was home almost every weekend. (Some people definitely thought this was...weird!)

If you ever want to come visit Atlanta to see if it's right for you, let me know!! :) I LOVE it here!!! I have a friend who moved here for a boyfriend and he broke up with her 2 weeks later (long story!) and she is still here in atlanta 2 years later and just closed on a house because she just loves it here so much!!

If I could live ANYWHERE, I'd probably pick the new england area like mass, vermont, or new hampshire. It's so gorgeous up there! Although I wonder how I'd feel about all the snow...

I've never been to CO, but I bet I'd love it too!! Sounds like my cup of tea! :)

I've lived in Richmond, VA all my life (except 4 years about an hour and a half away at JMU for college) -- and I feel like you when I say that my parents also live only 5 miles away! I love it here though, don't know that I would want to move anytime soon - and once I did it would have to be somewhere warmer year round like Georgia or Carolinas! :)

I grew up in Minnesota and went to college 20 minutes away from home and went home most weekends. I ended up studying abroad for about a year and then ended up moving to Denver after graduation! It's taken some getting used to, but I've definitely learned a ton being away on my own. And the mountains are pretty great :)

Although, I will admit I'm probably going to move back next year because my sister is havng a baby and I don't want to miss out on the family fun!

I love your blog!

(And my name is Holly, too!)

I swear we're living parallel lives in different countries! I'm definitely thinking about moving. I applied for a few jobs in Kelowna BC so we'll see I get any calls.

My sister's husband has done it many times - and he said he's always had a great experience. And this last time he met his wife :)

I only lived home until 18, and have lived away since then. Now, I live near Chicago, and my family lives in Iowa.

I would also like to try CO, or maybe somewhere on the east or west coast! I would probably miss MY family (wink wink) if I got too far away from them.

It's fun to think about trying new places! And fun to have family come and visit you!

Let's see...I lived in the same town as my parents until I was 18 and then I went 4 hours and two states away for college. Then I moved back to my hometown and stayed there for 6 more years. Then I moved 2.5 hours away to Chicago. I've been here for a year. I miss my hometown horribly and it was a huge decision to move. However, now that I've done a "big" move like this, I think I could do it again. I fell in love with California wine country (Sonoma area, specifically) this summer and I think I would love to end up there some day. Although, I'm also intrigued by CO.

I think you are my long lost sister. No flipping joke! I am such a homebody. I get so stressed out when i'm gone for too long. I just get that sense of relief from going home. Its not my parents either-- granted we get along great, i just love my home.

I hope someday, i can make a house a home so it feels just like my 'home' does now.

Moving sounds great-- ive considered it too but then i cry thinking about leaving my special room.

I've told my boyfriend, that if we were to get married, and have a house, i would need my own room. Not for sleeping per say, but a place i can decorate that reminds me of HOME.. and where i can have my own stuff. LOL i'm so weird!

Have a great weekend!!! xoxoxo

I'd move to Spain. That's my plan- in a year I want to move near Barcelona and buy a condo. Am hoping it will all work out! And part of it is, honestly, to assert my independence. I want to get away from everything I know and really step out of my comfort zone and do something on my own.

Hehe, okay, I think I do want to keep writing. I'm such a dork. I hid that post :) It would be fun to write about moving some place different :)

I grew up in Pennsylvania, lived in Maryland for 4 years, and now live in New York. It is exciting here but I think I'd rather live somewhere where it is hot all the time! Florida?

I've lived in central NJ my whole life...well, except for the first two years of my life when I lived in Staten Island but that doesn't count because I don't remember it. I went to school at Rutgers which was 20 min from my house, and now I live 25 min from my parents.

Like you, I sometimes fantasize about moving far away to learn a new area. This usually comes up when things get tough and I want to "escape." However, like you, I really don't see myself moving too far away in the long run.

I think it's neat to live so close to your family! I have moved a lot- between Edinburgh, London and New York mostly, but also lived in other parts of England and Massachusettes. My family are all over the place- Ohio, California, Texas, Oregan, NY, Scotland, France... Makes get-togethers hard!

I'd love to move to North Carolina one day...

I've lived in the same STATE my entire life, except for a few years at college, but I"m on the opposite end of the state now.

I don't think I'll ever leave Virginia unless I have to. I like having 4 seasons, and you just can't beat the fall here with the changing leaves.

My family always wears white for family photos!

How sweet you love your home so much! I've actually wanted to get away from my family, but I love seeing them fairly often so I now live 2 hours away. It works :)

I moved away from home when I went to University, then stayed away for another 2 years before I came back. It's nice to be around family. I do sometimes apply to jobs that are 1 or 2 years elsewhere. But I think in the end, I need to be near my family.
