Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me a Match

*Note: I feel like I've gotten kind of monotonous with my posts lately since I am not running and my knee is still bothering me....so expect to see some posts about my randomnessa little of everything.

So after a lot of proddingencouragement from my sisters and friends, I decided to join Match.com. I will be very honest - I never have wanted to do the online dating thing. I know it works - 2 of my best friends found their spouses online, and another is getting ready to get engaged! But you know? All 3 of those people lie to others when asked how they met their significant other. It makes me think they are embarrassed, and to be honest, I don't really want to tell people I'm doing it, either!

I always thought I would meet "Mr. Right" all on my own. I mean, not to toot my own horn (toot, toot!), but I think I'm kind of a catch. ;-) I have my own house, an awesome family, I'm not in debt, and I think I'm funny - well, I laugh at my own jokes, LOL. And I obviously take care of myself and am confident, probably more than I've ever been. But a part of me thinks of online dating as "cheating," somehow? I guess it's like infertility treatments, though (which many of my friends have experienced) - you want it all to happen naturally, of course, but what is wrong with going an alternate route just to make it happen?

Anyway, I've talked to a couple of guys over the phone and no luck so far. I only got a 3 month membership so I'm giving it until October to try it out. Have any of your friends/family had good luck with online dating?

Today I am thankful for:

- Fantasy football
- The Cardinals being back in 1st place
- Vacations to look forward to

I honestly don't think it's as taboo as it once was thought to be. My boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law met through match.com. As we get older and set deeper into our routines with work and friends, it can get hard to meet new people. There also comes a point where most friends in a group may be involved in a relationship or marriage, so there's even less of a need to go out to find someone new.

It's funny, because I really believe online dating is not what it used to be. You still have to go through a lot of "bad ones" to find a gem, but didn't we do that while dating offline anyways? It's just sort of accelerated, that's all. I've been on several dates with guys I met from match.com or eharmony. I didn't end up in a relationship with any of them, but they weren't bad guys by any means. Good luck! You do have a lot to offer and any guy will be lucky to go on a date with you! Keep us posted as your dating saga continues. :)

I think it is a great idea! My sister met her fiance on myspace, and my other friend met her boyfriend on J-Date! I honestly would do it too if things don't work out with my boyfriend. I am excited to hear about your dates!

Wow! I can't believe you haven't found someone already. And they say all the good ones are taken...

Hi Holly, I hear your on the montonous blogging, even though you aren't, it just feels that way. I hope you can get back to running soon... I know how it feels to not be able to do it.

Can't comment on match.com as I met my husband while we were in high school and we've been together ever since. Good luck though, Mr. Right is there somewhere.

I met Jason online and now we are engaged.

I met some other guys in the past that were okay, but we didn't have any chemistry. I think your chances of getting a creeper are the same as meeting a guy anywhere, you know?

You ARE a catch! Hehe.

Have fun with it, I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences with meeting people :)

PS I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the next week.

Seriously, I'm going through the same thing as you are!! And I still go back to it every now and then because how else am I going to meet guys! Definitely not walking my dog, obviously :) And I think if everyone stops lying about internet dating we'd realize how common it really is.

I have 2 success stories. My sister Amber met her husband online last year in February, were engaged in May and married in September!

A 55 year-old woman from my work met her husband online last year and they're getting married this sept.

I know people who've married the person they met! I met one guy but the chemistry just wasn't there. I really don't do well with blind dates or really awkward situations like that. It just doesn't work for me. I have to meet a guy at a party or through friends or something really casual. Otherwise I just feel too uncomfortable. If you can do it though, I say do it! Everyone is sitting around on their computers all day. People don't talk to eachother as much on the street, they have thier IPODs in.. it's a totally legit way to meet people.
I sound like an 80 year old woman complaining from her rockingchair! Good luck.. let us know how it goes.

The only reason you haven't met anyone is because no one good enough has come along yet!!!!

I totally support you joining match.com! I know a lot of people who have found each other online. In fact, on our honeymoon, one of the couples we met there told us very confidently they had met online. Personally, if you told me you met someone online, I'd think it was totally cool! Good luck and keep us updated! I'm not going to go all mom on you, but do be safe, meet in a public place, and tell people close to you when and where you're going. Wait, I think was a bit mommish! ;-)

I once dated a guy I met on MySpace... obviously it didn't work out. :) LOL But that is a totally different thing than something like this. I have a couple male friends who have used it in the past year and each found a great girl to date. but they all lie about how they met...

I'm really excited to hear what you think of it and see what happens!!

I'm SO happy for you! How exciting! I have heard of TONS of people that have found love on match.com or eharmony! I think whats meant to be is meant to be & if and when you find mr right, it all happened b/c it was supposed to! :)

Oh and by the sounds of it-- it dosent sound like you NEED a man by anymeans.. your doing GREAT on your own! :)

I'm thankful for

Good luck with Match.com! I really don't think it's anything to be embarrassed about. We find everything online these days: friends, homes, vacations, churches, clubs, etc... so why shouldn't it be okay to meet possible matches online, too?

I met my boyfriend on MySpace (when MySpace was THE thing!) and we've been together for three years.

Good luck! I think you're a catch ;)

Haha - watch us both turn our blogs into wedding blogs, that would be funny.

Can't wait to hear how the coffee date goes!!

I never tried it, BUT you are a catch, and should not be ashamed of using it! I am not ashamed to tell people I met a lot of my friends through blogging, which is somewhat similar (although, I did lie about one friend to my coworkers because I don't want them to know about my blog! ha!).

Good luck with match!
