Clean Eating Challenge

Heather at Hangry Pants is doing a Cleaner Life Month Challenge, and it's got me thinking about how I can clean up my life/eating. I've decided to start my own challenge, but of course I tweaked it just a little bit. :-)

A big part of my problem is that eating processed foods (cereal, bars, ice cream) can lead to binges, and I find that they aren't as "filling" as other options (like nuts and nut butters). So my challenge is similar to my ELC (Eat Less Crap) week. I am going to snack on only fruits, veggies, dairy (LOVE my greek yogurt!) and nuts/nut butters. I've actually done this the past 2 days, and it's amazing how "clean" I feel. Plus, who doesn't want to eat yummy fruit during the summer time?!

When I tend to eat processed foods, it actually makes my mouth want more. I've definitely learned that eating sugar leads to eating more sugar (for me)! What's interesting is that after a few days of avoiding these foods, I don't really find myself craving them all that much.

Do you eat a lot of processed foods? I have to admit, I LOVE the Weight Watcher "Cookie" Ice Cream bars....they are heaven on a stick! And I can't get enough cereal.

Hey Holly! I agree, knees do suck. To answer your question, when I hurt my knee in college, I did rehab where I did body-weight lunges, ankle weights, heat and ice. Basically doing things to strengthen my quad. Then I stopped running and started from scratch: running 400 meters and calling it a day, then slowly working up to normal mileage again. Took like three months and sucked! My goal is to not let the knee get THAT BAD where I can't run on it anymore and need to stop.

I will def. let you know if I'm doing Indy! That's the day the girls I coach go to State, but we haven't done that in several years now....I'll keep ya posted!

I pretty much stay away from all processed food. It just doesn't taste as good as the real thing and it plays games with my poor sensitive tummy!

I try really hard not to eat processed foods, but when I do, they also lead to binges for me. Good luck on eating clean! I should try it!

I definitely avoid pasta, bread, and bagels because I never feel full when I eat them. Anything with a lot of protein and some fat works for me. But in small portions :)

And greek yogurt?? I'll have to look for that!

Ahhhh! I eat terrible! I need serious eating help. I agree with everything you said. Could someone PLEASE explain to me what the hell nut butters are?
