Planner Planner Eat My Nanner

In an effort to eat less crap, I've decided to stop eating those lovely frozen Lean Cuisines we all love so much (or maybe it's just me). I had gotten into the habit of having them everyday at lunch because it was a. fast, b. cheap (I get the generic ones - hollah), c. low-fat/cal, and d. fast. And it's also pretty fast. Knowing that it's not exactly good for me to be eating all those preservatives, I'm making an effort to bring in wholesome, hearty foods for my lunches during the week.

I lllllove me some leftovers, so my plan is to bring in leftovers as much as possible. My GOAL is to plan out my meals at the beginning of the week (I go to the grocery on Sunday or Monday), and either cook a couple on Sunday or as much at the beginning of the week as possible.

Do you plan meals out at the beginning of the week? Or do you just shop it up and wing it as you go?

Good luck with your leftover eating plans!! : )

I plan sometimes and I don't sometimes. More times than not I sort of think it out in my head and then when that particular day comes, I wing it. Or I look through a magazine and see recipes I'd like to try so I get ingredients that I don't have for it and then plan to make sometime that week, so it leaves the plans open, haha.

I have to save room for spontaneity because if I plan things too much I go crazy trying to follow my exact plan!

I plan the day before, or a couple days before. I always make one big dish on Sunday so I can have back-up leftovers if needs be throughout the week (either pea soup or my quinoa dish, usually). I also like having sandwiches (fast!), oatmeal, frittata etc. I make stuff the night before if I know I won't have time the next day. Healthy pancakes is fun too!

Oh man I love those Lean Cuisines too but I also tried to stop eating them because of the million ingredients! I usually buy almost a pound of turkey during the weekend so that I can pack sandwiches each day.

i love the name of your blog posts! I try to plan my meals, because its easier on my grocery bill - but honestly, sometimes I get so caught up in planning meals and then I never actually follow them.

Good for you! What honestly works best for me is making some large over the weekend and freezing lunch sized portions of it. I wake up in the am, grab one out of the freezer, toss in a yogurt and some fruit and I'm good to go! Let us know how it works out this week. yayy for crap freeness!

I always plan dinners on Fridays, and go shopping for the week on Saturday or Sunday. It makes life so much less hectic! But if something comes up and we end up going out for dinner or something I don't stress...that's just one less meal I have to plan for next week. I also make a lot of big dishes so we have leftovers.

I wish I planned out my meals better as I tend to wing it and then end up going grocery shopping every other day.

I bet you'll feel so much better making your own lunches as you'll be getting food made with love rather than sodium. :)

Best of luck with your new plan - here's to eating crap free!

Lesley - that is so true! If I try to be too rigid with my eating plans, I get ticked if my friend spontaneously asks me out to dinner or something. *note to self - need to work on that.

Sagan - I LOVE the idea of a back-up leftover. And I love to cook big dishes on Sundays or Saturdays, too...makes me feel v. productive. :-)

Missy - I have a new love of turkey burgers. And they are SO easy to make. Bonus!

Sweetandfit - thank you! What can I say...I'm kinda immature and like puns and rhymes. lol.

Kelly - lol, I kind of thought so but didn't think anyone would think so. Hmmm...

Erica - I need to work on freezing things! I don't know why, I'm scared it won't taste as good. Just froze some quiche this weekend so we'll see how it heats up.

Eatingfree - COMPLETELY agree that it makes life less hectic to do it all on the weekends. Our weeks are too busy, and I like my sleep. :-)

Heather - lol, that's what I'm trying to avoid. The grocery store people already probably know my name...and I do have to admit, I LOVE grocery shopping. Is that weird? Wait, don't answer that.

Let us know how your Lean Cuisine-free lunches are going! I usually have a stash of a few in the freezer to grab whenever I'm crunched for time. Like you, I'm starting to become more aware of the preservatives and sodium in these things, so I really try to keep my LC consumption to a minimum.

I don't plan out all my meals at the beginning of the week, but I had make sure my kitchen is stocked with healthy foods and snacks so it's a no-brainer when I pack everything up. I'm usually good about planning my meals out the day before. Not only does it make things easier, I find that I look forward to my food more because I know I that it's healthy and yummy, and there's no guilt associated with winging it and ending up with something less nutritious.

On sundays I like to buy a big thing of chicken, make a large dish out of half of it (good for Sunday dinner + monday/tuesday lunches) and the other half I make into something else on Tuesday night (Dinner + wednesday/thursday lunches).

Then friday i feel okay about eating out as a treat. Done and done.

Hi Hi! Yes, I make probably 8ish hard boiled eggs at a time and just put them in a bowl in my fridge. They totally stink it up, but its worth it ;)

Kristen - I totally agree, that is another reason I plan my meals at least one day ahead. I wish I could wing it, but I'm afraid I would panic and it would end horribly. :-)

briankainec - that is a great idea to make a dish and then change it up mid-week! Might have to give this a whirl...especially with that website, Big Oven (for uninventive cooks like me).

MizFit - I wish I were a "winger"!

Erica - thanks SO much. I am definitely making those...they sound super yummy right now. Roomie might not like the smell but I'll get some air freshener, lol.
