After All....Tomorrow is Another Day

You know when you take time off from something, and then the idea of going back to it seems so daunting? THAT is how I feel about working out again! Grr.

I used to be so disciplined: waking up at 5 a.m. and working out for 75 minutes. Now I can’t even get my lazy butt out of bed at 7:10 a.m. – without working out!

It’s been 5 weeks since I’ve worked out – I mean, really worked out – and the idea of going back seems so intimidating. I think, too, a part of me is terrified that my hip pain will flare up again.

So I’m officially starting tomorrow morning – no, really, I am. :-) I’ve done some research on strength training and went out and bought a kettlebell, so hopefully that will be a good start.

On a good note, I’ve gone 4 weeks without cookie dough (I mean, like a serious cookie dough binge). Hey, that's gotta count for something…right?

Good for you getting back on that wagon. The first few days are tough, but just think how you'll feel -- especially after a week or so. They say it takes 30 days to make anything a habit. So very soon you won't even remember what those 5 weeks without felt like!

Hi! I found your site via Tales of a Disordered Eater, and found your blog motivating and easy to relate to.

Going back to working out regularly has been THE HARDEST obstacle for me time and again. I find that it's easier for me to change my eating habits, although usually that only lasts for a few days or weeks. In the past I've only worked out for the outward rewards.

Now I just tell myself to try working out once. Only once- and not to think of it as starting an exercise routine all over again. I find it can be overwhelming. During that one time I'm working out, I usually feel good about making that decision. The effects last the rest of the day, and it makes it that much easier to try it again tomorrow. One day at a time :)

umm...I can't believe I haven't told you this before but I used to work at a seafood restuarant in wisconsin where we served cookie dough with every salad. Like, a little scoop of eggless batter in a cup. I sometimes had to scoop hundreds of them before a shift. I'd bring tons homs to my roommates and, while we couldn't bake them (no eggs), we would just CHOW!

Thank you, Kristen! It has been such a great experience finding others who are experiencing the EXACT same thing. I love your advice, and in fact tonight when I was working out, I kept telling myself that. Just get through tonight! It really did help. I'm going to start out doing every other day, so it helps knowing tomorrow I will have the day "off" (um...like I need it?!).

OH MY GOSH I must go to this restaurant NOW! I love the idea of serving cookie dough with a salad - GENIUS. Next time I cook for people, I'm totally going to do that. :-)

I honestly think you are writing my story here with the injury. And being a runner and suddenly being sidelined is so difficult...both mentally and physically. And no other workout feels the same as running if you are a runner at heart.

You will be back into the routine in no time too!!!

That is SO true. I don't think anything else will measure up to running in my book!

I really miss training for and doing races the most. There was something so exciting about the training, the night before the race, and finally finishing. Maybe they will start races for the elliptical? :-)

Hopefully in a few months we'll both be back out there!
